The Best Thing I Ate This Week

While I’m often in Little Rock, rarely do I get the opportunity to have breakfast in Arkansas’ Capitol City. Luckily I arrived early for a 9am meeting ath the Capital Hotel and got to dine in Ashley’s for the first meal of the day. Seeking Chef Lee Richardson’s take on bacon and eggs, I selected The Traditional Heartland.

While the selection varies, I was encouraged to try the bacon cheddar cheese grits and sausage links. As all of the artisan meats are prepared in the hotel, I couldn’t help but to order a side of the apple wood smoked bacon. The plate was garnished with a halved tomato, hand crafted preserves and local sorghum butter.

The dish is what it is, offering all of the comforts of the bacon and eggs that your mother would make you, with the execution and excellence you’ve come to expect from Ashley’s. The entire dish is spot on with the grits serving as the centerpiece. For those looking to dive deeper into the menu, try the more distinguished Corned Beef Hash with poached eggs or the Signature Chocolate French Toast and sauteed bananas.
